On September 24, the EU Council adopted temporary tariff relief for Armenian products. Its statement says the measure liberalises around 80% of Armenian exports to the EU for two years. Entry into force is linked to publication in the EU’s Official Journal.
For a Hungarian importer, this may create another sourcing option, but it is not blanket duty-free treatment for every product. The cost of a transaction depends on product classification, proof of origin and the date of application. The adoption date should not automatically be treated as the first day of relief.
Tariffs are only one cost component. Transport, insurance, quality compliance and payment terms can change the ranking of competing offers. The regulatory decision may therefore open a commercial opportunity without proving that an Armenian supplier will always be cheaper.
The next checks are the exact product coverage and commencement date in the published rules. Business contracts should refer to these rather than a broad political announcement. Import figures and new commercial relationships will subsequently show the measure’s practical trade impact.
